Real Movies for REEL People!

Welcome to 2009! New Year, New President! Let's hope it will be a better year for everybody!

Things I've been into lately:

-Batman:The Brave and The Bold: This may the coolest, most fun superhero cartoon in a long time! It takes everything that was fun and wacky about the Silver Age of Comics and distills it into a 1/2 hour shot of pure joy! I have been disgusted with the current trends and attitudes that the Big Two (Marvel and DC) have been running with for the last two years. Guys? Superhero comics should be fun, optimistic, and open to all readers! Like they were during the Silver Age. So it's so nice to see a cartoon that remembers what made those old comics so much fun!

-The "Old School" Role Playing Game movement-Lately there's been a small, but vocal number of RPG publishers, blogs and websites dedicated to remembering and capturing the feel of the classic versions of Dungeons and Dragons as well as other classic RPG's. Coincidence that it arrives when 4th Edition D&D is being criticized as being too simplistic and trying to emulate WoW?

Anyway, I've viewed a few of these books and they look cool! My two favorites:

Labyrinth Lord-A re-mastered version of the 1981 version of D&D-Download it for free!

Mutant Future-Download it for free!-NOT a re-mastered version of Gamma World. But a nice use of the Labyrinth Lord rules to get the feel of TSR's classic post-apocalypse RPG. And since it's compatible with Labyrinth Lord, the possibilities are endless! (Ralph Bashki's Wizards anyone?)

GROGNARDIA-James Maliszewski's blog dedicated to the history and traditions of role-playing games

-Star Wars:The Clone Wars-I'll be honest. I'm digging this series! Everything clicks nicely, even the new character, Asoka is cool! HOWEVER I can only hope that somehow, she survives Order 66 and Anikin/Vader's purge of the Jedi. My hope? Either she escapes to the Outer Rim and lives out her life similar to Yoda (Hermit or maybe becomes a reclusive grandma) or is found in the future asleep in a stasis chamber and is awakened by a young Jedi and his crew. Either way, it would be nice to see her meet Luke and Leia. And as the scene fades to black we hear Luke ask the question..."Tell us about our father"...
